This is a mixdown of the soundtrack I composed for the hit Sydney escape room Art Heist in 2017.
In Art Heist you and your crew plan and carry out a robbery in our purpose-built art gallery. Distract guards. Avoid cameras. Fool alarms. Dodge lasers. Steal art. But be quick, time’s already running out…
In the original 30 minute experience there were various sensors throughout the room which would trigger alarms, but also subtly bring in stems in the sound design. Breaking the laser grid would fade up the drums, as your time ran out the synth part would become harsher, walking past the large portrait of a jolly sea captain would trigger a random grab of a jolly sea captain.
A lot of this tech was inspired by video game music and the way it reacts to the players actions. I was really pleased we were able to execute something like this in meatspace.
"The tech on hand is genuinely impressive, elevating the experience to endorphin-inducing heights... Bryce Halliday’s soundtrack makes you feel like you’re in Ocean’s Eleven, and it’s thrilling."
